9 Strange School Rules in South Korea!

South Korea is much famous for so many things. It have gifted us the most popular song Gangnam style, which was the heart of every party. Also, Kim Ung Yong was the Guinness record holder for having the highest IQ in the world. He belonged to South Korea. Beside all this we have listed down the strange school rules that every South Korean follows.

1. Saturday Classes

Most of the nation have announced holiday on Saturday. But it is different from what south Koreans does. They have usual classes on Saturdays. This outraged the students and parents, so government modified this. Now, students have to go to Saturday classes for only 2 Saturdays a month. Some are still not happy about it.

2. School Uniform

Every school have their dress codes. However, in South Korea students have to free from any sort of jewellery and makeup. They have been checked upon if they have any sort of extra make up or jewellery, which is strictly not allowed. Not even small rings and chains, and even if you have put a dark lip balm, you might be in trouble.


3. The Bathroom

This one is really strange. Like all the other schools in the world, to go to the toilet, you just have to ask it from the teacher. Moreover, in South Korea students themselves have to take care of the tissue paper. It is said that most of the schools in South Korea does not come stocked with paper.

4. No Shoes

As we have traditions in Indian homes, to not take shoes inside the house. This rule fits into with South Korean schools. The shoes have to be removed outside the school and slippers are too worn. It sounds pretty comfortable though.

5. Take Out The Trash

We have previously wrote about the school rules of Japan where students are made to clean the school floors even. Here, in South Korea the situation is more tragic. Students are even made o clean the garbage outside the school area.

6. Extra Lessons

Just like your or mine school, South Korean students also attend classes from 8:30 A.M. to early afternoon. But, there is another addition. After the classes they have to wait for special classes which are conducted till 9:00 P.M. Also, these students have to spend thousands for extra tuition and extra classes.

7. No Prom or Homecoming

Usually, in other parts during the homecoming, proms and other cultural activities are organized. But, in South Korean schools, there is nothing like that. There are no societies organizing such parties. Also, students generally go to other places to celebrate. It so and forth balances the odd.

8. College Etiquette

When in other parts of the world, you are considered as genius and is appreciated. This is not the case with South Korean school. And during the college times, yawning, taking nap in classes was a hand in hand part, students do not do it in South Korea, it is believed that if you do so it is assumed that you are bored or uninterested. Also, for asking question extra time after class is provided, doing it in the middle of the class proves that you are challenging the knowledge of professor.

9. Punishment 

Every school have certain trouble makers, and bullies. There has been not so harsh punishment to deal with them. However, in South Korea for dealing with such cases, South Korea applies corporal punishment. When in the other part of the world, harming a student physically is banned, in South Korea the practice still goes on.
