So Let’s Take A Look At Real Story Of The Girl Featured On Parle-G Wrapper!
Parle-G biscuit remains as popular as it ever was. According to a survey conducted by Nielsen in 2011, it is the best-selling biscuit in the world. Whenever we see its cover, a question arises in our mind. The question is who is the child on the biscuit packet? More important than that, the question is where is that child right now and what is she doing?
There have been a lot of controversies about the child appearing on the cover of this biscuit. Three women have been claimed to be featured on the cover. Let’s talk about this controversy in detail, first let us know when this little girl first appeared on the cover.
In 1929, a Chauhan family living in Vile Parle, Mumbai, started a company called Parle. In the beginning only confectionery meant selling things like cake, pastry and cookies. But there was demand in the market of biscuits. And it was being fulfilled by the British companies. From year 1939, Parle started selling biscuits in India and started selling it.
Until 1980, it came from the name of ‘Parle Gluco’ biscuits. Later, its name was changed to ‘Parle-G’. Over time, the ‘G’ which used to have known glucose, was changed it to ‘Genius’. Also, the photo that appeared on the cover also changed. Earlier, there was a cow and ‘Gwalan’ on the cover, but it was replaced by a lovely cute girl on the cover. It was the company’s promotional strategy.
Its wrapper color is white and yellow right from the beginning. But there has been a lot of debate over the child appearing on the wrapper. Three women named Neeru Deshpande, Sudha Murthy (wife of IT industrialist Narayan Murthy) and Gunjan Gandania have been claiming to be this child. But in the media, Neeru Deshpande is considered as the child.
The story behind this photo of Neeru is that when she was four and a half years old, his father had taken this photo. He was not a creative photographer, but whoever saw the picture was fascinated by it. And the picture got into the hands of a person who had got influence with the Parle people. This resulted in Neeru being featured on the Parle’s packet. However, Neeru has now become a 62-year-old woman.
There is also a myth associated with this news and it is that in many places, the name of the woman who appears on the packet of Parle-G is Neeru Deshpande. But the picture on the cover is of Sudha Murthy. Sudha Murthy, the wife of InfoSys founder Narayan Murthy. I do not know how long it is to be photographed. But it is also true that Neeru’s photo is no where to be found because there is a photograph of Sudha everywhere.
Apart from all these things and rumors, product manager Mayur Jain of Parle, says that this is not a picture of any real person, but it’s just an illustration. In the 60’s, an artist named Maganlal Daiya made it. It’s just a graphic developed by Everest Creatives.
