10. His wife was his barber
On
the second page of his memoir Stan Lee revealed a secret that he never
went to a barber all his adulthood because his wife, Joanie acts as his
barber and just cuts his hair whenever needed.
9. Got confidence from his mother
When
Stan Lee was a child, he loved reading books by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle,
Mark Twain, Jules Verne, H.G Wells and many more and when he used to
read his mother just used to watch him and think how brilliant my child
is. That where Stan Lee gained his confidence because he knew that for
his mother he is brilliant.
8. Wrote obituaries when young
Earlier
Stan Lee used to write obituaries for celebs at a new office in New
York and after some time he had to quit his job because he thought it
was too depressing for him. After that, he started writing about the
lives of our great superheroes.
7. Captain America was a big break
After
a week at Timely Comics, Stan Lee got an opportunity to write a comic
about Captain America and the title of that two-page comic was “Captain
America Foils the Traitor’s Revenge”. This comic got published on 1st
August 1941 and it was his first big break.
6. Wrote training films for the army with Dr. Seuss
When
Lee got transferred from the army’s Signal Corps in New Jersey, he
started working as a playwright with eight other men in the Training
Film Division in Queens. Out of the eight men, some got famous like
Charles Addams, Theodor Geisel or Dr. Seuss and William Saroyan.
5. Defied comics code authority with an anti-drug comic
In
the year 1971, Lee received a letter from the Department of Health and
Welfare in which he was told to write a message regarding anti-drug in
his books. So he wrote a Spider-Man story in which he mentioned about
drugs. The CCA did not approve his story because of the mention of drugs
but he convinced them to publish it anyhow.
4. A printer issue turned the Hulk green
The
character of Hulk was actually supposed to be gray but the printer had
some issues with color consistency and eventually, the character of Hulk
was printed green, not gray.
3. His wife destroyed his typewriter
During
an argument with Lee, his wife destroyed his prized typewriter in which
used to write about characters like Spider-Man and The Fantastic Four.
More than that he was upset about the fact that eBay came later
otherwise he could have put the parts together and sell it for mint.
2. Fire destroyed his lectures and interviews
When
Stan Lee had moved to Los Angeles with his family, he had set up a
studio for his own use to store all the videotapes of his lectures and
interviews. But then suddenly one day the building caught a fire and
everything got destroyed.
1. His favorite cameo in Marvel film was based one from the comics
From
Spider-Man in 2002, he started making a number of cameos for his fans
and later on when he appeared in Fantastic Four in 2007, that was
inspired by Reed and Sue Richard’s wedding story in which Lee and his
friend Jack Kirby try to crash the wedding.
