Sridevi Bungalow teaser: Priya Prakash Varrier’s Bollywood debut seems like a disgusting take on Boney Kapoor’s late wife and superstar

Almost a year after she took the internet by storm with her wink, Priya Prakash Varrieris back in the headlines and this time it is for her Bollywood debut. The actress was dubbed as the winking girl by the internet last year but the Malayalam film Oru Adaar Love which has the said clip hasn’t released yet. Meanwhile, Priya is now all set for her Hindi movie debut with Sridevi Bungalow. The actress was in Mumbai recently to launch the teaser of her first Bollywood movie in which she is seen playing a successful but lonely actress.
The promo starts off with a child quizzing the actress’s favourite star. It’s then that she reveals her character’s name, Sridevi. The teaser goes on to show her life in a foreign land, her on-screen and off-screen life and then takes a dark turn when Priya’s Sridevi is seen sobbing under the shower. The video ends depicting Sridevi’s death, similar to the real-life actress’s end which shocked the nation last year. However, Priya herself did not confirm that the movie is based on the super star’s life.

BL Verdict:
While reactions from fans are pouring in, we found the teaser rather distastefully made. Even if the movie is not inspired by the late actress, who died of accidental drowning in 2018, the makers choosing the same name for the movie is rather disturbing. While we’re ready to give them a benefit of doubt that Sridevi in this context might not be the same as Boney Kapoor’s wife but why use such a name, especially since everyone knows she was one of the most loved actresses and her name associated to death evokes sad memories from last year.
Sridevi Bungalow is directed by Malayalam filmmaker Prasanth Mambully and is reportedly made with a budget of Rs 70 crore.
